Lessons are live, regularly scheduled classes on Zoom, taught by native Arabic speakers.
Critical Language Service provides unique, live Arabic classes through Zoom that go beyond traditional video conference lessons. Our teaching methods are tailored specifically for the online learning environment, ensuring a highly interactive and engaging experience.
Since our founding in 2011, we have been dedicated exclusively to online language instruction, setting us apart as pioneers in the field. Every aspect of our curriculum—from the use of digital whiteboards, and hands on virtual manipulatives, to real-time collaboration activities—has been crafted to optimize learning outcomes in a virtual setting, offering a truly immersive way to master the Arabic language from anywhere in the world.
Two class formats giving flexibility
We offer two types of live Arabic classes via Zoom: point-to-point and multi-point calls. In point-to-point classes, the teacher connects to a single location, which can range from one student taking a private lesson to a small group gathered around a laptop or an entire classroom of students at a school. This format is our top choice as it promotes the most seamless interaction between students.
For multi-point classes, the teacher connects with students across multiple locations, making this format ideal for homeschooling families and independent group classes. It allows students to participate from different places while still enjoying the collaborative environment of learning with classmates.
No matter which format you choose, all our classes are taught by highly trained in communicative teaching techniques, native Arabic-speaking teachers based in Arab countries. During class sessions teachers are visible from the waist up, allowing them to use their full range of body language to convey meaning and bring energy to the session. This setup creates an engaging experience far beyond the typical "talking head" format seen in most other video conference classes.
The Interactivity of an In-Person Classroom on Zoom
Whether classes are conducted through point-to-point Zoom or multi-point connections, they remain highly interactive and engaging. Teachers and students collaborate in real-time on shared digital whiteboards, manipulate shared digital learning objects, and participate in dynamic activities that make learning come alive.
Aligned with our teaching philosophy of "Show, Don't Tell," teachers use tools like dolls—including iconic characters such as Mickey and Minnie Mouse—as well as a collection of other physical and virtual props to enhance the learning experience. These visual aids help convey essential concepts such as direct and indirect speech, masculine and feminine forms, and singular and plural distinctions. By incorporating these items into our lessons, we provide students with clear visual cues that bring abstract grammar concepts to life, making them easier to understand and apply in real communication.
Our instructors encourage students to move away from their chairs, engage in role plays, dialogues, writing exercises, and more. This approach effectively recreates the interactivity of an in-person classroom, ensuring a seamless and immersive learning experience, even when students are joining from different locations.
Teacher Support Outside of Live Classes
Each class is led by a dedicated, regular teacher who is committed to supporting students' learning both inside and outside of live sessions. In addition to the interactive lessons conducted via Zoom, teachers remain accessible through messaging on the Canvas platform, ensuring that students can receive assistance and guidance at any time.
We encourage students to collaborate and engage with one another on Canvas through teacher-facilitated discussions and projects, fostering a sense of community and continuous learning. At Critical Language Service, we believe that education extends beyond the Zoom call—our live classes are just one component of a comprehensive learning program designed to keep students engaged and motivated throughout their language journey.
A Virtual Window into Egypt and Morocco
Because Critical Language Service teachers are based in their home countries, they bring the authentic culture and everyday experiences of Egypt and Morocco directly into the classroom. Students gain unique insights into local customs, traditions, and ways of life, creating a learning environment that goes beyond standard language instruction. This cultural immersion often sparks a deeper interest in Arabic and inspires many students to travel and explore these fascinating countries firsthand.
Our online format provides an opportunity for learners to dive into a new world of language and culture, experiencing the richness of Egyptian and Moroccan lifestyles. This approach not only enhances language comprehension but also offers a virtual journey that connects learners to the real-world context of the language they are studying.
