About the level

Al-Kitaab Part Two builds upon the foundation established in Al Kitaab Part 1. This textbook focuses on expanding vocabulary and improving grammar skills, essential for students aiming to understand authentic Arabic media.

Think of this level as a graduation from childhood to adulthood. In Level 5, the lessons are thematic and based around multi-page authentic texts on a wide variety of social, religious, historical and political topics. As with the previous levels, all modes of communication are developed: reading, writing, listening and speaking.

Additionally, special lessons on translation are an important part of this level. While the focus remains Modern Standard Arabic, students are expected to develop the ability to actively communicate in a dialect, either Egyptian or Levantine Arabic.through the materials is highly dependent upon the student. Some students may need less time to complete a level and some may require more.

As with the Al Kitaab Part 1, Critical Language Service supplements and enhances this textbook with its own multimedia materials; including grammar and vocabulary usage video tutorials.

Prerequisites: Level 4 or the equivalent (3 to 4 years of high school Arabic/1.5 to 3 years of college Arabic)

Student Reviews

Sarah

There are so many exercises and materials for us beyond just the textbook. We get to work on Culture Boards...we also make up and act out stories...all these different methods help us to use our Arabic in fun and creative ways.

Lena

Having the grammar tutorials was beyond helpful! I started the second book of Al Kitaab in college and found it to be just too frustrating. However, with these classes, it has been a completely different experience.

Other useful information

The aim of this level is to produce students with the ability to function in professional settings in Arabic. There is a huge jump in levels between Al Kitaab Part 1 and this book, Al Kitaab Part 2. Therefore Critical Language Service recommends students complete a bridge course before in the form of our Level 4, before starting Al Kitaab Part 2.
